For my graduation collection, I explored my cultural heritage more deeply as a source of inspiration.
Out of personal interest i felt that fashion is often seen as disposable, I want to take a step back and reevaluate craftsmanship. I am inspired by the Song Dynasty in China, where artisanship, minimalism and innovation were central to the era. This collection is about expressing my personal trait of finding balance between minimalism and experimentation, with a focus on detailing and finishings. It is a continuous dialogue between the past and the present.

fabric experiments

Inspired by the colours and textures of paintings of China, the result was actually achieved with the process of 'ebonizing wood'. A process used to make wood black. Dye made with steelwool and vinegar

Inspired by the ceramics of the Song Dynasty, this experiment is made by starching the fabric with water and flour. When dry, cracked gently and painted over with indian ink.

Taking inspiration from activewear and incorporating in the collection was an innovative take. Instead of sewing, glueing panels, using seam tape and meticulous patterning for minimalistic pocket constructions.
